Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
Pocono INDYCAR 500 – Pocono Raceway
Verizon IndyCar Series
QUALIFYING NOTES/QUOTES – July 5, 2014
RAHAL QUALIFIED 14TH FOR THE POCONO INDYCAR 500 AT POCONO RACEWAY
POLE: Juan Pablo Montoya 2-lap avg. speed of 223.871 mph (L1: 40.1929, L2: 40.2105)
14th: Graham Rahal 2-lap avg. speed of 220.747 mph (L1: 40.9552, L2: 40.5861)
GRAHAM RAHAL, No. 15 National Guard Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “The car had too much understeer and just wouldn’t turn. The second lap was a pretty solid one but unfortunately the first lap was pretty slow. We didn’t put enough aero in it and the car just pushed too much. I don’t think we were going to do a 223 (mph) or anything like that but we ran a 221.7 with a huge lift so I think it could have been a mid-to-high 222 which would have put much closer to the front. You can use the tools (in the cockpit) to adjust only so much and we got better (from Lap 1 to Lap 2) but the National Guard car is really good this weekend so we just wanted more. I think that our race car is particularly good so I’m looking forward to the race.”
RLL AT POCONO RACEWAY: It will be the second race at Pocono Raceway for the team… Last year at Pocono, Rahal qualified 17th, started 16th due to a grid penalty of someone ahead of him and finished 18th. James Jakes qualified 14th, started 13th after a car ahead received a grid penalty and finished 12th… Bobby Rahal competed at Pocono Raceway eight times between 1982-1989 and earned one win (1988), three podiums (3rd – 1982, 1984) and six top-five’s in addition to leading 131 laps
NEXT UP: The 200 lap Pocono INDYCAR 500 will take the Green Flag at 1:08 p.m. ET. Live coverage will begin at 12 noon ET on NBCSN.
