Munich (DE), 4th December 2015. BMW Motorsport used its traditional season review in the BMW Museum in Munich (DE) to present its programme for the 2016 season. As well as the commitment in the DTM, next year’s other big story is set to be the debut of the BMW M6 GT3 and BMW M6 GTLM. BMW’s latest figurehead on the GT racing scene will go head to head with top-class opposition in GT racing series and endurance classics in Europe, as well as with teams and manufacturers in North America in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship (WTSCC). The BMW M6 GT3 will also be in action in Asia and Australia.
BROWNSBURG, Ind. (October 20, 2015) – Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing (RLL) announced today that the team will prepare an entry for 2015 Indy Lights champion Spencer Pigot in three Verizon IndyCar Series events in 2016 with the intent to add more. Sponsorship details for events at St. Petersburg, Fla., the Grand Prix of Indianapolis and the 100th Running of the Indianapolis 500 will be announced at a later date.
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – October 3, 2015… The 2015 United SportsCar Championship (USCC) came to an early end at Road Atlanta (US): At Petit Le Mans, which was called off two hours short of its scheduled ten hours due to bad weather conditions, John Edwards (US), Lucas Luhr (DE) and Jens Klingmann (DE) finished second in the GTLM class with the number 24 BMW Z4 GTLM. It was also P2 in the overall classification for the BMW trio. Car number 25, driven by Bill Auberlen (US), Dirk Werner (DE) and Augusto Farfus (BR), came fourth in the GTLM category. Porsche’s Nick Tandy (GB), Patrick Pilet (FR) and Richard Lietz (AT) secured victory at Road Atlanta (US). For the third time this season, the number 24 BMW Z4 GTLM won the DEKRA Green Challenge Award.
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – October 2, 2015… The countdown to the nail-biting finale of the 2015 United SportsCar Championship (USCC) at Road Atlanta (US) is on. In qualifying for the final race of the season, the classic Petit Le Mans, BMW Team RLL secured promising grid positions. In difficult conditions with heavy rain and a wet track, Lucas Luhr (DE) qualified fourth at the wheel of the number 24 BMW Z4 GTLM. The German clocked a personal best time of 1:31.763 minutes and was 1.689 seconds slower than Porsche’s Earl Bamber (NZ) on the GTLM pole position. In Saturday’s race Luhr will share driving duties with John Edwards (US) and Jens Klingmann (DE).
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – October 2, 2015… While the BMW M6 GT3 will contest race events and series with FIA GT3 regulations as of next season, BMW Motorsport is also working on a new challenger for the elite class of North American GT racing: the BMW M6 GTLM. The plan is to return for an eighth season with BMW Team RLL and field the newly developed racing car in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship in 2016.
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – September 29, 2015… BMW Team RLL will be racing for the GTLM class championship this weekend as the 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship comes to a close at the 18th annual Petit Le Mans. The 10-hour-race, held at Road Atlanta, in Braselton, Ga., traditionally ends the North America sports car season and will be an exciting one for BMW fans. BMW Team RLL won its third race of the year two weeks ago at Circuit of the Americas to put the BMW only three points behind Porsche in the Manufacturer, Team and Driver points standings.
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – Sept. 19, 2015… BMW Team RLL survived a very hot and humid afternoon at Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas, to finish first and seventh in today’s two-hour-and-forty-minute Lone Star Le Mans race, the penultimate round of the 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship. The third victory for the team this season moves BMW to second place in GTLM Manufacturer points standings.
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – Sept. 18, 2015… BMW Team RLL will start second and sixth in tomorrow’s two-hour-and-forty-minute Lone Star Le Mans at Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, Texas, the penultimate round of the 2015 TUDOR United SportsCar Championship.
Woodcliff Lake, N.J. – Aug. 23, 2015… BMW Team RLL finished fourth and fifth in front of the large crowd that watched today’s two-hour-and-forty-minute TUDOR United SportsCar Championship Oak Tree Grand Prix at VIRginia International Raceway, in Alton, Va. John Edwards and Lucas Luhr, driving the No. 24 BMW Z4, finished fourth. Bill Auberlen and Dirk Werner finished fifth in the No. 25 machine. Both BMWs ended the race in the same positions from which they started. The race was won by the No. 911 Porsche.
