1992
Driver: Bobby Rahal
Car #: 12
Sponsors: Miller Genuine Draft
Championship Finish: 1st
Bobby Rahal became the first driver to ever win a CART title in his first year as a driver/owner as he won the second-closest points race in the series history to that point, besting Michael Andretti by just four points to capture his third Indy Car championship. Earned victories at Phoenix, Detroit, Loudon and Nazareth and bolstered his point total with 11 top-five finishes. Led all 200 laps to win Phoenix and paced the final 20 laps in Detroit. Finished second after winning the pole at Milwaukee and Toronto, led 136 of 200 laps from pole in winning at Loudon. Held the series lead from race 2 to race 13, but fell behind Al Unser Jr. after a crash at Mid-Ohio. The deficit was short-lived as he won the race event at Nazareth and then finished third at Laguna Seca to clinch the title.
