The 2010 season saw Rahal Letterman Racing earn its first championships in 18 years as the BMW M3s driven by Bill Auberlen, Joey Hand, Dirk Müller and Tommy Milner, Jr., earned the American Le Mans Series Team championship for RLR and the Manufacturer’s championship for BMW. The season started quickly for the team with both cars earning podium finishes at the 12 hours of Sebring, and the momentum never slowed from there. The team had at least one of its two cars on the podium in each of the season’s first eight races, putting the team in position to claim its championships in the season finale at Road Atlanta. With Dirk Werner and Andy Priaulx joining the team for the finale, the Auberlen/Milner/Werner car finished fourth, which was good enough to win the championships by a single point! Müller and Hand defended the team’s Road America win from 2009 with another dominating performance to take the victory, one of its four podium runs, while its sister car scored six podium results. The team again returned to Indianapolis with Graham Rahal in the cockpit of the team’s Indy Car, driving for his father’s team for the first time. Rahal qualified seventh for the 500-mile race, marking the team’s best qualifying performance at Indy since 2005. The car ran well all day and Graham finished on the lead lap in 12th, his charge blunted by a disputed blocking penalty midway through the race.
