Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing
Bommarito 500 at World Wide Technology Raceway
NTT INDYCAR SERIES
RACE NOTES/QUOTES – August 27, 2023
DALY, LUNDGAARD AND RAHAL FINISHED 16TH, 17TH AND 20TH IN THE BOMMARITO AUTOMOTIVE GROUP 500
GRAHAM RAHAL, No. 15 Hogan Transportation Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “I’m disappointed with the weekend and with the day. We just never had it. I thought that, across the board, we just didn’t make the right moves to find ourselves in a place to go forward. The car was so inconsistent to drive. Some laps it would be okay and we’d rotate (in the turns) and the next lap it wouldn’t turn at all. I think we’ve just got to continue to work really hard on the short oval package. We’ve got to put our heads down and keep working hard and find some speed for next year because races like this are going to be vital if we want to be up in the hunt at the end of the season. It was great to have Hogan Transportation on the car this weekend and to see the Hogan family out here. We wanted to give them a better result.”
CONOR DALY, 30 Mi-Jack Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “I really enjoyed driving the car for Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing. I think we just had a couple of things that didn’t go our way strategy wise. Right at the start we got a bit of an overboost and that really killed us. That was a really difficult moment. But, we just had to come back from it and we tried to come back from it. Tried to do everything we could strategy wise. I appreciate everyone’s effort. It was great to drive for this organization. I really wish I could get another shot at it because it was awesome to drive for this team. We will see what happens in the future but I’m really appreciative.”
CHRISTIAN LUNDGAARD, No. 45 Hy-Vee Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “It was a tough one. With the whole of Saturday being rained out, and not preparing us as best as possible and putting everybody on the back foot going into qualifying, obviously. And having that session on Saturday night and going into qualifying on Sunday morning and then straight into the race was challenging. It was a good race, a long one. I think Conor and I were very similar in terms of pace and it was a little unfortunate that we couldn’t get by him at the end. I think we were a little faster there. Now we have two road courses ahead of us and we’re fast at road courses. Also, we were very, very fast at Portland last year so I’m excited for the races ahead.”
NEXT UP: The team will work at WWTR on Monday to turn the cars around from oval setup to road course and the transporters will depart for Portland at the end of the day.
