Driver Bio

Sheldon van der Linde

When Sheldon van der Linde became BMW M works driver in 2019, a dream came true for the young South African: he followed in his grandfather Hennie’s footsteps who already had been a BMW M works driver. As his father Shaun and brother Kelvin are also racers there was no question that Sheldon would become one, too. As Europe offered better chances for a racing driver career, teen-aged Sheldon followed his older brother to live in Germany in 2016.

In December 2018, Sheldon took part in the BMW DTM Young Driver Test in Spanish Jerez de la Frontera. His convincing performance secured him a place in the DTM works program for 2019. He raced to pole position in his rookie year with the BMW M4 DTM and celebrated his first DTM win in 2020. Sheldon also competed in the 2021 DTM, now in a BMW M6 GT3 as the format of the series had changed.

GT racing has always been the second pillar in Sheldon’s works outings for BMW. His biggest successes to date have been the victory at his home race, the Kyalami 9 Hours in 2020 and third and second places at the Nürburgring 24 Hours in 2020 and 2021.
