Driver Bio

Marco Wittmann

Coming from a car enthusiastic family, Marco Wittmann followed his dream to become a professional race car driver from a very young age. After years in karting, he switched to single-seaters. But his big success came with tin-top cars. In 2012, Marco was test driver for the BMW DTM program and became part of the BMW M works driver squad in the series one year later. Being “Rookie of the Year” in 2013 was just the beginning of Marco’s success in the touring car series.

By winning the DTM title in 2014 and 2016 he was the youngest two-time DTM champion ever. Marco himself rates victory at his home race at the Norisring in 2018 as his biggest win in DTM. For the 2021 season, the DTM format changed from prototypes to GT3 cars. Marco successfully managed that transition, winning races and fighting for the title with the BMW M6 GT3 as well.

Of course, Marco had gathered a lot of GT experience already before 2021. He regularly contested GT races with BMW like the Nürburgring 24 Hours (where he claimed second place in 2021), the FIA GT World Cup in Macau or the Bathurst 12 hour. With BMW M Team RLL, he claimed third place in the Rolex24 at Daytona in 2021. Marco is also part of the driver line-up for the 2022 Rolex24.
