NTT INDYCAR SERIES
RACE NOTES / QUOTES – September 15, 2024
THE BIG MACHINE MUSIC CITY GRAND PRIX BROUGHT THE 2024 NTT INDYCAR SERIES SEASON TO A CLOSE
GRAHAM RAHAL, No. 15 Fifth Third Bank Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “We wanted to finish the season better than this obviously. I can assure you the determination on behalf of this entire organization is to turn things around. We’ve got a lot of changes planned this off season, some of which have already begun. And we have a lot of continuity, and we’ve got a lot of good people here that we’re going to continue to build upon. I’m proud of the team. I’m proud of the work that they’ve put in and I’m hopeful that we can get ourselves into a good place for our partners and to make sure that we come back into 2025 even stronger.”
FAST FACTS: He started 19th and finished 23rd in his second race here. In 2008, he started 10th and finished 12th with Newman/Haas/Lanigan Racing in a rain-shortened event. He participated in an INDYCAR test with a few other cars here on June 14. His best start on the streets of Nashville is 9th in 2022 and his best finish is fifth in 2021… He ended the season in 18th place in series point standings with a total of 251.
PIETRO FITTIPALDI, No. 30 5-hour ENERGY Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “I think the car was good today to move forward and pass cars in dirty air. We overtook a lot of cars and got into the leader’s circle range. It was just unfortunate with the strategy at the end. We went to save fuel and had to bail on the fuel save plan with one lap to go so I think we had a Top 15 finish going which would’ve been great for us. But, the main goal was to make the leader’s circle and we did it. Yeah, I’m happy about that and the work the team did today.”
FAST FACTS: He was the top-running team car for most of the race after starting 16th but, like others, he had to make a late-race stop for two-laps of fuel and finished 21st in his first race here… He finished the season ranked 19th in series point standings with 186.
CHRISTIAN LUNDGAARD, No. 45 Hy-Vee Dallara/Honda/Firestone: “It was a tricky car to drive. I think we made the best of it getting the strategy to work, saving fuel there at the end to cut a stop short compared to the majority of the field there which was good. I wanted to end the weekend better but thank you to the team for the effort put in this weekend and all year.”
FAST FACTS: Drove to a 19th place finish from a 21st place start in his first race on the oval in Nashville. He competed in the 2022-2023 races downtown with his highest start and finish coming in 2022 of third and eighth, respectively… He finished the season 11th in the series point standings with 312.
