NEWS & NOTES:
AUSTIN DYNE REWIND ON ROUND 3 & 4 IN THOMPSON, CONNECTICUT
“I feel Connecticut was a really solid weekend for the team and myself. We were very competitive and ended Race 1 fifth after battling up front. Race 2 was hard. Every heat race we had to start on the outside which made it very hard as you were almost guaranteed to be in the back out of Turn 2. Unfortunately we got damage from contact at the start and ended up getting a left front puncture on Lap 3. I was still able to finish on the rim and get the most points we could get.”
AUSTIN ON RACING IN CANADA
“It’s pretty cool to finally be racing in Canada with GRC. I’ve been to many races in Canada and the fans are awesome. The track layout looks fun and they are always good at airports it seems for us.”
AUSTIN ON THE COMPETITION IN 2017
“We’re pushing for podiums. We’re right there speed-wise. It’s just putting it all together and a little luck would be nice! Everyone is so close. GRC has never been this close and every race you never know who will have an advantage.”
COURSE DETAILS
After an exciting temporary circuit in Louisville produced a Supercar final decided by .071 seconds, this weekend’s layout at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum will have some high expectations to live up to. The runways of the Rockcliffe Flying Club will be slightly longer than the parking lot of the Kentucky Exposition Center, but the concept is the same: the driver who can best conquer a tight circuit will take home the victory. Drivers will launch into the longest straightaway on the circuit coming off the start line, heading into a flowing right and a tight left-hander. In fact, Turns 2 through 5 are a series of consecutive lefts that will test drivers’ outside tire management before a left-right chicane leads drivers into the dirt section. After flying over the 70-foot jump and crossing the finish line, the field heads into the tightest dirt corner of the season, a left-hand hairpin, before a right-left combo drops them back onto the paved straightaway. The Joker Lap picks drivers up with a tight left-hander just before Turn 3. The shortcut adds its own gradual right-left combination before merging with the main lane before the jump. While a shorter lap length-wise, the question will be how much time drivers lose while braking for the abrupt entry, and if faster drivers carrying speed through the series of left turns on the main lap can maintain enough pace to mitigate the advantage.
